my drink(s) of choice. everyday.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition did a study that said - the average American drinks 400 calories per day. WHAT? Are we all drinking Big Macs, shoot.
Cold Facts.
soda/pop/coke - 250 calories per 12oz.
juice - orange, grape, cranberry - 216 calories per 12oz.
100% fruit juice - 200-320 calories depending on your cup size
2% milk - 240 calories
TBH - I don't count my calories, macros, or anything - but I do make health conscious decisions. Below are my top 5 drinks. simple. yummy. healthy.
1. Bullet Proof Coffee - I gave in. The whole @bulletproofcoffee gang. But here's why I did - it's high quality, clean energy. Bulletproof coffee not only tastes amazing, but it also has the ability to help you - "lose weight, build muscle, increase your focus and performance" - just check it out for more info.
The "official way" to make your Bulletproof Coffee is: bulletproof coffee beans, brain octane oil and grass-fed ghee and then blend it all together. It can cost ya a pretty penny no doubt - but you can get the same effect for less $$ with my recipe below.
So here's what I do each morning (recipe makes for 2):
- Make dat drip coffee - 5 C. water to 4-5 T. organic coffee grounds (from Costco - so its a huge bag)
- 2 T. brain octane oil (that i get at Sprout's or Whole Foods for less $$)
- 1 T. coconut oil
- 1 splash of (unsweetened) almond milk or hemp milk
*sprinkle in cinnamon to taste
Blend it ALL in your blender/magic bullet/ninja - whatever. And bottoms up! I literally drink this every morning - first thing. It get's my brain functioning and my body moving. It's warm, smooth and creamy. Tastes yummy and it's full of HEALTHY FATS.
PS did you know - an 8oz. latte made with whole milk is 130 calories but that's not even including syrups, sugar or whipped cream. What about that Venti though?
2. Water with Lemons & Limes - you probably just laughed and rolled your eyes at this one. I'm not about the whole "when life gives you lemons" thing but just here me out on this one . . . We all need to drink more H2O. duh.
In order to find out how much water you should be drinking each day do this:
Body weight ÷ 2 = ounces of water YOU should consume per day
That's a boat load of water and it's hard to do this unless you make it a priority -OR- add a lil-somethin-somethin to it. So, all day long you can find me squeezing my lemons and my limes into that ice cold water.
*Plus* eating naturally sour things (lemons, limes, grapefruit, sauerkraut) can help take away sweet cravings. So really it's a win-win. DrinkUp!
3. AdvoCare SPARK - This is a game changer. Simply put, its vitamins, amino acids and just the right amount of caffeine - that delivers energy and enhanced mental focus with 20 vitamins, minerals and nutrients. No jitters no crash - just some quality brain food. I took this all through college, and now I use it before my workouts or whenever I have a lull in my day - usually around 2PM. It's my afternoon refreshment - for my mind and body and I look forward to it every day!
There are 10 different flavors and it's perfect for on the go, the gym, sports, work life, mom/dad life, etc. This is literally for EVERYONE plus it's cheaper than your energy drinks/soda/pop/lattes. Don't just take my word for it - check it out for yourself - click here for my AdvoCare website.
Side Note - Red Bull - 168 calories per 12 oz.
Spark - 45 calories (shake it in your water bottle) and take on the rest of your day.
4. Spindrift - sparkling water made with REAL fruit. Can i get an amen?
No sugars/no GMOs/no gluten. I don't drink pop/coke/soda so when I'm craving something carbonated - it's my go to. My favorite flavor is raspberry lime on ice - So refreshing and no guilt. I get a huge box of Spindrift at Costco with 4 flavors in it but you can find Spindrift almost anywhere!
"Spindrift = real fruit + sparkling water. Yup, that’s it."
Love IT.
5. AdvoCare Rehydrate - this is a life saver. I take it after every workout or when I'm out in the sun all day. Rehydrate helps replace minerals and electrolytes lost through sweat and supports recovery after a workout using vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, sustamine and a blend of important electrolytes. From berry lemon ice/orange/fruit punch/key lime cherry/ red raspberry/mango pineapple - you're sure to find a flavor you'll love, plus they are all equally refreshing.
And yeah, you-betcha, Rehydrate only has 40 calories compared to a large Gatorade or Powerade with 240 calories per 32 oz. bottle.
It's important to read the labels on the foods & drinks we are putting into our body. Estimate how many calories you drink per day - on average - and make it your goal to dial it down. Maybe these drinks aren't for you but find something that is - make health conscious decisions. This is such an easy, small step towards a healthier - more fit life - but it's a step in the right direction. Pretty soon your small steps will be a huge leap. You got this.
